Privacy policy

Redraft is a writing coach for Australian students in Years 7–9. A parent or guardian creates the account and consents on behalf of their child. This page explains what the product does with personal information, in the same structure the final policy will use.

What we collect

  • A parent email and the student’s year level. Student accounts use a username, not an email address, and we don’t ask for a surname or date of birth.
  • The student’s writing and the assessments, feedback and progress built from it.
  • Waitlist sign-ups: a parent email and state, kept separately from product data.

How writing is handled

  • Every piece of writing is screened for wellbeing before any other AI task reads it. A flagged piece is held for a person to review and is not sent to a grading model.
  • Prompts sent to an AI provider carry the year level and the writing only. Names, emails, schools and locations are removed before the text is sent.
  • Raw prompt and response logs hold scrubbed text only, are access-controlled, and are deleted after 30 days. Flagged text is never written to them.
  • AI providers, and where they process data, are named in the final policy.

Who sees the writing

  • A parent sees a piece of writing only when the student chooses to share it.
  • Support staff cannot read student writing without a logged reason. Records about a wellbeing concern are restricted to the safeguarding lead and kept under legal hold.

Retention and your choices

  • Writing and assessments are kept while the account is active, and deleted 12 months after the account closes or stops being used.
  • A parent can export everything and delete the account from settings. Deletion completes within 30 days, including backups.
  • Safeguarding records are kept separately, as the law requires.

Automated decisions

Rubric levels, mastery and the focus skill are produced with automated processing. The final policy will describe how those decisions are made and how to ask for a human review.
